Releasing music under just his surname, Jared Smyth gives an initial sign that only the barest musical essentials will cling to the disc. The early indication proves to be correct as "Sanibel", which was played, recorded, and captured entirely in the summer of 2011, veers past minimalism toward stillness and silence. The full-length CDR further establishes recent trends in the ambient world, namely the tendency to eschew DSP processing and feature stray field recordings. This places much of the "Sanibel" material squarely in line with recent 12k output that puts a premium on quiet delicacy, soft rustling, and faint guitar notes that hint at melody while never fully succumbing to it. - Ryan Potts, Experimedia
