Best known around these parts as the label that recently issued Mamiffer & Locrian's "Bless Them that Curse You" 2xLP, Sige Records regroups with a more traditional and song-based record in the form of Ides of Gemini's full-length debut. Though a more telling indicator of what sounds reside in the grooves is found in the label that will issue the CD version, Neurot Recordings, which was founded by members of Neurosis. "Constantinople" exhibits a brand of dark, atmospheric metal that veers from doom-ridden dirge to mid-tempo anthem. The trio, however, have a unique take on such a genre as Ides of Gemini's razor-sharp guitars and booming drums are firmly planted in the backdrop of the album. This allows Sera Timm's angelic vocals, which appear both forceful and ethereal, to be pushed to the fore in order to coat the album's metal roots in a dreamy haze. - Ryan Potts, Experimedia

IDES OF GEMINI is a collusion of musical forces precipitated by the haunting and inimitable vocal prowess of singer/bassist Sera Timms, also of Los Angeles dark-psych alchemists BLACK MATH HORSEMAN. The compositions are the long-simmering mental fallout of veteran music and film journalist J. Bennett (guitar/backing vocals), who has spent most of the last 14 years writing for such publications as Decibel, Terrorizer, Revolver, Alternative Press and Thrasher. The third and final corner of the triangle is Kelly Johnston, whose martial drumming techniques and soaring backing vocals literally brought IDES OF GEMINI to life as a performing entity.
