Usually a format relegated to throwaway major label releases or club-friendly dance mixes, the CD single has rarely been a vehicle for sound art and other esoteric genres. Derek Piotr, a Poland-born experimental musician, resoundingly avoids such conventional wisdom as this is his second remix collection to surface in the past year. "Deliver," a collaborative piece with vocalist Carahanni, was originally released on Piotr's full-length "Airing" in May 2012, but here it is paired with six other diverse renditions that occupy over 30 minutes. The original four-minute track is a minimalist blend of slight rhythms and floating vocals that are sliced and fragmented into an undulating piece of outsider pop, but this starting point is often obscured into ghostly echoes, layered loops, and noisy distortions. The biggest names to appear on "Deliver" are Richard Chartier (under the moniker Pinkcourtesyphone) and C. Spencer Yeh, but every remix provides a unique and distinct look into Piotr's intriguing source material. - Ryan Potts, Experimedia

Limited edition of 100 CDs in cardboard wallet.

"Deliver" is lifted from Derek Piotr's second solo record Airing, released on Bitsquare Recordings in May. The record was nominated by the jury of Ars Electronica for the Prix Ars 2012 prize in Digital Musics, and praised by Igloo Magazine: "the album duly unfolds and genuinely engrosses". "Deliver", a duet with Pakistani vocalist Carahanni, will be released as a full single with accompanying video, edited by Jamie Bennison.

This single features remixes from the duo Best Fwends as well as esteemed composer/producer Richard Chartier, under his new moniker Pinkcourtesyphone. Other mixes include a contribution from artist C. Spencer Yeh, a hypnotic 13-minute cut from producer Backyard Gypsy, a cover by performance artist Ivan Cheng, and a rework from Australian musician Paul Heslin. These will be available on the EP, released on CD and digitally July 23rd.

Many see remix releases as disposable collections of needless bonus material. Not so for Piotr, who considers remixes essential extensions of his solo work. This was underlined with last year's release AGORA Regathered, a remix of his debut album, which featured input from producers Scanner, Steinbruchel and Blevin Blectum among others.
